Why do we keep emphasizing “most”? Well, read on to find out.

Firstly, as the name suggests e-scooters are powered by batteries and run exclusively on electricity. According to our research in the past, the average car commuter can expect to spend about $62 USD per month in gas costs. I [Maciek] live in Vancouver, a city known for its nature, but also vast and sprawling neighbourhoods with average cycling infrastructure at best. However, even here there are multiple occasions when taking an e-scooter is faster than driving or taking transit. Let’s take a look at a simple commute - starting on Main Street and heading to Stanley Park around 9AM in the morning.
Driving will get you there in 25 minutes, public transit in about 40 minutes. Google estimates biking will take about 30 mins, however from experience we know that an e-scooter is about 20% faster than a regular “acoustic” bike. This is simply a function of faster acceleration and a higher top speed maintained for longer distances, which would put the hypothetical electric scooter commuter at about 24 minutes.
You’re probably thinking “sure, but what about my commute” - and you’re right to do so. I encourage you to open Google Maps right now and see what your commute looks like. As a rule of thumb:
- Reduce the estimate for bike commuting by 20%
- If you’re a hybrid commuter (more on that below) - assume that any walking would be replaced by a scooter
To show you that we're not exaggerating with this specific example, let’s take another look at a commuter travelling from Brooklyn to Manhattan in New York City.
Once again, we find that driving would take approximately 30 minutes and taking the subway around 34 minutes. If we reduce the cycling estimate to get our “scooter commute” approximation, we’re looking at 32 minutes. That’s 2 minutes more than driving, without accounting for any time and costs spent on gas, parking, and insurance. Crazy!
Now, we’re also realistic - we understand sitting in a warm car (especially around this time of the year) is a touch more comfortable than bracing the wind/hail/snow/rain/anything else that might be falling from the skies on an e-scooter. However, for those living a little further South with year-round scooter weather - this might just be the thing that you’ve been waiting for.

If you are debating between the pro for city commuting, I'm writing this for you. In short, just bite the bullet and buy this thing. You wont regret it.
I live in Chicago IL (USA) and about three months ago I made the bold decision to sell my car and "scoot" as my primary form of transportation. For reference, my commute is ~2.5 miles through Chicago's famously pot-hole riddled streets. After much lamenting, I buckled down and bought the apollo pro. The scooter is just... well amazing. Its SO much fun to zip around Chicago with this thing (to the point that I look forward to my commute). It picks up speed like none other which has already helped me avoid accidents and it brakes on a dime (which has saved some tourists who blissfully step into the bike lanes). The suspension feels like you are floating on a cloud; when I do feel a pothole its because I wasn't paying attention and went over a small crater. Also, it also just looks cool; I have had multiple people comment while I am at a stop light that it looks "cool," "badass," and "boss." Its fun to go by a group of kids and here them just say "wooooooow."
Okay fine, so that just kind of describes a lot of "high end" e-scooters (at least that's what I thought when I was debating my purchase) but what really places the Apollo pro over the top is the clear effort Apollo placed into making this a long-term commuting investment. The scooter is VERY sturdy and it handles the busy streets of Chicago like a champ. However, I just had to do my first repair on it (my fault haha) and you can purchase literally ANY part from Apollo to repair this thing yourself (look into the other "premium" brands and you will find that when they brake, its often more cost effective to trash them). I love this so much from Apollo and appreciate the conscious effort they have made to make their scooters repairable and sustainable.
I would advise that if you get this, look into some heavier duty safety equipment (its easy to forget how fast you are going on this thing since its a scooter, but I find myself often keeping pace or outrunning cars). Overall, hands down it was one of the best purchases I have made in a long time.
